Denby Dale Men’s Shed Association Library of Things
Members’ Agreement and Items Policy
- Members must be age 18 or over to borrow items from the Denby Dale Share Shed, a Library of Things, referred to as “DDSS” for the purpose of this Agreement.
- Only Members of DDSS are eligible to borrow items. Prior to borrowing items, all Members must (a) complete a Membership Application Form; (b) agree the Liability Waiver and Indemnification Form; and (c) have their residence confirmed. Residence will be confirmed the first time a Member collects an item; acceptable documents are listed in the registration email.
- Only the Member is authorised to use DDSS items. The Member shall not permit the use of items checked out to them by any other person.
- Borrowing fees are listed per item. The minimum loan period is 2 days, and the maximum loan period is 7 days. The borrowing fee must be paid at the point of reservation.
- Payment is taken online by debit or credit card to add credit to the Member account. The minimum payment permitted is £10.00.
- Reservations should be made online, and if the Member changes their mind, they should give the DDSS at least 2 days’ notice to receive a full refund (issued as an account credit).
- By taking possession of any item, the Member warrants and represents to DDSS that they (a) has no mental or physical incapacity that would affect their ability to use the item safely, and (b) is capable of using, and will use, the item in a safe and proper manner.
- All items borrowed are to be returned to DDSS by close of business on their Return Date as agreed by the borrower and DDSS.
- Members may renew each item online provided no other member has reserved the item. DDSS reserves the right to refuse or limit renewals and to refuse the loan of any item at its discretion.
- The Member understands and accepts that to maximize availability of items to all Members, DDSS sends emails as a reminder when borrowed items’ return dates are approaching. When items are not returned by the designated due date, DDSS will issue an overdue notice by phone call and / or email.
- A fee of 50p per day will be charged for things returned late and must be paid in full before borrowing additional items. Late fees are capped at the full replacement cost of each item plus a £5 administrative fee.
- All items are to be returned in the same (or better) condition as they were issued, barring normal wear and tear. All items must be returned clean, otherwise a cleaning fee will be charged.
- Some things require consumable parts (e.g. sanding pads, jigsaw blades, batteries) which are not guaranteed to come with the item. You may therefore have to buy your own parts. If parts are provided, please replace any used prior to returning the item.
- The Member agrees to pay for the loss of any item. The Member further agrees to accept DDSS staff’s assessment of the condition of returned items and staff’s assessment of fair restitution for damage, delinquency and/or loss of items in part or in total.
- The Member agrees that if any borrowed item becomes unsafe or in a state of disrepair, they must immediately discontinue use of the item and notify DDSS on return.
- The Member must take all necessary precautions when using the borrowed item. Personal Protective Equipment should be worn where appropriate, including but not limited to, eye protection, ear protection, gloves, appropriate footwear, etc.
- DDSS reserves the right to limit the number of items borrowed and refuse the loan of any item at the staff’s discretion.
- DDSS reserves the right to withdraw any item if it cannot be repaired, or is deemed to be unsafe.
- DDSS reserves the right to change these terms and conditions at any time, and you agree to abide by the most recent version of this Terms of Use Agreement each time you borrow from DDSS.

- The signing Member further states that they have read and fully understand the rules and regulations of DDSS, and they understand that failure to comply with any of these rules may result in revocation of their borrowing privileges and/or legal action against them. The signing Member has also read and signed a Waiver and Indemnification Form, relinquishing any and all claims against DDSS.
Liability Waiver and Indemnification Form
The items in our collection are for the use of DDSS members. Out of respect for future users, please take care of the items you borrow and report any damage to the DDSS team immediately. If you feel compelled to return items in a better condition than when you borrowed them, that would be highly appreciated!
